New Faces, Global Impact: Q&A with Lee Kramer

Joining SBA as a Senior Manager of Client Experience, Lee has designed and led programs across 40+ countries and six continents. He’s shaped how students explore the world, their careers, and themselves. Now, he brings his deep experience in higher education and global learning to Southbridge Access.

Most recently, Lee served as Director of Student Life at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, supporting 2,400+ undergraduates through academic, career, and global experiences. He previously held roles at the University of Pennsylvania and Emory University and began his career as a high school teacher.

We asked Lee a few questions about what drives him, what makes travel so important, and why global education matters now more than ever.

What makes a short-term global experience truly transformative?

Programs grounded in academic and intercultural learning outcomes help students connect travel to their coursework, careers, and personal growth. These experiences challenge assumptions, build empathy, and spark curiosity. Students return more confident, more reflective, and with a clearer sense of who they are.

Given today’s uncertain geopolitical climate, why is global education more important than ever?

In a time of growing global uncertainty whether due to political instability, conflict, or cultural division, global education is even more important these days. International travel equips students with the ability to think critically, engage respectfully across differences, and understand complex global systems.

These are the exact skills we need in the next generation of leaders, problem-solvers, and citizens. When students step outside their own cultural frameworks, they gain perspective and learn to navigate ambiguity, build empathy, and collaborate across boundaries.

What is one item you always pack when traveling for a program?

A universal travel adapter! A necessity when traveling abroad!

What excites you most about bringing your expertise to Southbridge Access?

What excites me most is the opportunity to help colleges and universities turn their international goals into reality. With years of experience in global programming and a strong network across higher education, I’m thrilled to contribute to this work by supporting institutions as they expand access to meaningful, well-designed global experiences.

I’ve been incredibly impressed by the team at Southbridge—the level of collaboration, shared mission, and deep expertise in international education is inspiring. It’s a truly global organization, with colleagues around the world who bring unique regional insights and perspectives. I look forward to being part of this dynamic, international team and making a lasting impact together.
